Gaming since 1985

Like most responsible people, I have been playing games since a very young age. I've played a huge variety of games, but generally enjoy action/adventure games the most.

You can often find me Xbox Live and Steam.

A life in Warcraft

For quite a few years now I have been strongly interested in the Warcraft series of games, produced by Blizzard Entertainment.

Gnome at work is a large wiki-based website that covers the whole of Blizzard's Warcraft universe. The wiki is an extremely popular website with thousands of unique visitors and contributors every day.

For several years I acted as one of the lead site administrators, helping with all sides of the running of the wiki – the general theming and main page are two of my most obvious efforts.

ClearFont, a World of Warcraft addon

ClearFont was downloaded several hundred thousand times since it launched in September 2005! In December 2006 a complete recode of the addon, called ClearFont2, was launched.

It allowed users to change the typefaces used in WoW for a simpler, cleaner set. I received several positive messages from those with sight issues - it was never a particular intention to aid such issues, so it was a rather pleasant surprise!

Development of the addon has now ceased, as I no longer had the time to maintain it - but replacements exist, one of which I use :)

World of Warcraft characters

I have several characters on several different realms:

Chekov : level 90 Alliance hunter (Stormrage EU).
My current main character, started soon after release of The Burning Crusade.

Warburn : level 80 Alliance warlock (Stormrage EU).
My first ever character! Currently inactive.

Salvera : level 80 Horde death knight (Stormrage EU).
Started during Wrath of the Lich King, in order to experience all the Horde-side content.

Plus, of course, I have a whole host of other characters at other levels...

A brief history...

Warcraft: Orcs & Humans
I first played this at school on one of the Macs. Great fun, though I recall a few fights over whose turn it was next.

Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness
One of the first proper games I bought! Unfortunately, I never played the expansion – crazy...

Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos + The Frozen Throne
By this point, I was really getting into Warcraft, and bought the Collector's Edition while on holiday in Germany. Fortunately, it was in English :) Fantastic storyline, and great fun to play.

World of Warcraft
Having never had experience with an MMO before, I bought WoW on the very first day of EU release on the strength of the reviews and franchise alone! Foolishly, I did not buy the Collector's Edition. I still remember that first crazy day in Goldshire...

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade
I was fortunate enough to be allowed a chance to beta test the WoW expansion pack. Thank you Blizzard, it made the winter months fly past! Additionally, by this point I had started collecting all the various novels and guides that accompany WoW.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
Once again I was fortunate enough to be given a chance to beta test the new expansion pack. Another great experience – it's incredibly interesting to see games in live development. It's also awesome to see the lore of the game really starting to take central stage.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria
More opportunities to beta test, the fun never ends :)
